Our Story
We once had a dream that we played football on our own pitch with drainage, floodlights and dugouts. In 1999 this dream started to become a reality when the S.F.A suggested it to North Ayrshire Council. Our dream was alive…
No one could have predicted the success story that followed. After many meetings, Kilwinning Community Sports Club was formed. Sixteen representatives of the towns youth and amateur teams took a gamble in March 2000; they got together to form one club and to improve the training and playing facilities in Kilwinning.
The main office bearers from the newly formed management committee drove the club forward and negotiated a lease from the council for Pennyburn Playing Fields. We had our own pitch. To be precise, we had two elevens and to sevens plus a huge lake with no floodlights or dugouts. The small and basic pavilion was in need of major improvements and the pitches were in very poor condition.
The club now speaks for itself, just look at the football pitches and Astroturf training facilities, leisure path, golf facility and fitness suites to see what’s been achieved in terms of facility improvement.
What is not evident is the remarkable achievement of the people behind the scenes. We got together, we worked together, and we built it together for our community. We built Kilwinning’s very own “Field of Dreams”
Our Goal
Our aim is to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare so that conditions of life may be improved. Above all, our vision is of a socially inclusive community where individuals have the opportunity to achieve their full potential. The club manage and operate the facilities at Pennyburn Playing Fields in Kilwinning on behalf of the community to enable the furtherance of sports development, health and fitness and community well-being.
The club now has over 2,000 members and facilities that include eight full size grass football pitches, a full size synthetic floodlit football pitch, a smaller floodlit AstroTurf football 5-a-side/training facility, a fully equipped indoor fitness suite, a short game – family golf centre, a newly built clubhouse and multi-purpose club room.
